For the protection of those involved, names have been changed or omitted, but these stories are real.

When a child loses the people who were supposed to keep them safe, the world can quickly turn dangerous. For Alycia, that danger became real far too young. Growing up in a crime-impacted neighborhood with two addicted parents, she lost her mother—her only source of love—at just eleven years old. With nowhere safe to go, Alycia started couch surfing, living day to day, doing whatever she could to survive. It wasn’t long before traffickers saw what she couldn’t hide: a child alone, desperate for belonging.

When Breaking the Chains met Alycia, she was fifteen and living in a deserted van. That night, she found something she hadn’t felt in years: safety. Surrounded by a team of advocates, social workers, law enforcement, and a caring partner family, Alycia began to rebuild her life. She went back to school, learned to trust again, and slowly began to believe that love could be real—and safe.

Today, Alisha lives independently in Northern California. Her story is proof that healing happens when a community refuses to look away—when we choose to walk together until every child is seen, known, and free. Because He cares, Our Valley Cares. And because Our Valley Cares, there’s one less youth exploited, and one more life restored.
